As the distractive global spectacle of the 22nd Olympic Games plays out on the world’s stage, real news is shoved to the background.
Indeed, at no time in modern history has the world teetered on such a precarious abyss as the one that we find ourselves on now. The U.S. is challenged on every front; the government, the economy, national defense, constitutional freedoms, food and water supplies and a whole host of other issues.
Yet, we are enthralled by bobsledders, ice skaters and ski jumpers as if those things had any real effect on our lives. At the same time, we have saber rattling by the Chinese, the Russians and even the Iranians.
However our “elected” officials continue to ignore real problems while promoting their ideologue agenda. If that were not bad enough, they do so in such a blatant and reckless way that their actions dangerously threaten the very nation that they are sworn to protect.
Case in point is a recent article in which US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland was caught on a cell phone call speaking with the US Ambassador to Ukraine, Geoffrey Pyatt. Their discussion was a strategy session in which the two were trying to shape events within the Ukraine, specifically using the United Nations to help destabilize that sovereign country.
It was within this context that Nuland tells Pyatt she has “one more wrinkle” for him.
Commenting on European pressure put on Yanukovych – or lack thereof – she explains that she has spoken to the United Nations and has gotten an official there who said that Ban Ki-moon, the UN Secretary General, agreed to send someone to Ukraine to “help glue this thing and to have the UN glue it.” In closing, she adds, “And you know, f*** the EU.”
Excuse me? Are these supposed to be representatives of the greatest nation in the world or just college kids having a discussion over a beer at a frat party?
Jen Psaki, spokesperson for The State Department, accused the Russians of spying on the conversation and credited them for the disclosure. She made the accusation while expressing “shock” that another nation would be “spying” on the U.S.
Shock about spying?!
Talk about amateur hour! What’s worse is the fact that there were no denials – no explanations – no nothing except a reference to spying which is tantamount to “the dog ate my homework!”
“It wasn’t me! I didn’t do anything! It was that mean, dumb dog! You know, he always poops in the worst places and then I have to pick it up! And that dog always wants to go for a walk at the worst times! Boy, not only did he eat my homework, but he is sure a pain in the butt!”
Now what were we talking about…
Oh yes – OBFUSCATION!
It doesn’t matter what scandal we’ve seen this administration embroiled in, the response is always the same! They seek to muddy the waters and distract from the real issues. Whether it be Fast & Furious, Obama’s birth certificate, IRS, NSA, Budget, Obamacare, etc. etc, they ALWAYS say that it’s not their fault! It’s either the Republicans, or the Birthers, or the Tea Party, or the media and now it’s the Russians!
Where is Harry Truman when you need him?!
Indeed, this pattern of obfuscation has now been inbred in our own society. We have a citizenry who demand entitlements because they deserve them. Never mind the fact that the lack of work ethic is killing this country. We have a populace that expects an Obama phone, or disability check or unemployment check.
When confronted with the cold hard numbers, many say: “There they go again. Those doggone rich people are always trying to hoard all the money for themselves!”
I’m not making light of real needs here, but I believe that this ideal of obfuscation has purposely been sown into the fabric of our once great nation for the sole purpose of taking it down!
So the next time you hear our leaders, on either side of the aisle, or another segment of society try to muddy the waters, have the courage to set the record straight.
Truth is always the best weapon against a lie and before it’s too late, we need to reverse course before the world truly comes to see us as:
The Obfuscation Nation.
